I was browsing my mum’s blog again and found this entry, it feels very apt at the moment. I also had a dream last night about a necklace of hers, I put it on as soon as I got out of bed this morning. I suppose I’m feeling her presence more closely at the moment and these wise words “popped” out at me. I often think about what she would say, what advice she would give. If I think quietly about it for long enough, her voice often comes bubbling up from somewhere deep inside of me.
Cherokee Tale 13/10/2005 11:58:13 pm
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside
He said “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is evil. It
is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment,
inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is good. It is joy, peace,
love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth,
compassion and faith.
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,
“Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
Acknowledge negative thoughts but try not to plant them as seeds,
and be careful which seeds get water and attention from your spirit.
It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure,
To embrace the new.
But there is NO real security in what is no longer ‘meaningful’
There is MORE security in the adventurous and exciting.
For in movement, there is life…and in change, there is POWER.
